NBA MVP Race

Halfway through the NBA season, one of the more exciting storylines has been a deep, diverse MVP race.

This year, reasonable arguments could be made for several players, a far cry from years past, like last year, when Stephen Curry wrapped up the award in the first month, or in seasons when LeBron James was far and away the most devastating player in the league.
This season there seems to be a consensus of the top three candidates, and it must come as a cruel irony for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

James Harden.

Westbrook won't win it simply because his team seeding won't be good enough for him to win it. With Kanter out, the best they can hope for is a 6-8th seed and nobody has won the MVP with seeding that low. Averaging a triple double is unreal but seeding and wins DO come into consideration when it comes to the MVP.

Harden has insane stats that are similar to Westbrook AND a better record. Rockets are on pace to be the 3rd which is impressive when you look at the Rockets roster.

For me, as of now the MVP Race is:

  1. James Harden

  2. Russell Westbrook (If Thunder can somehow finish top 5 in the West)

  3. LeBron James

Currently, the list of players sorted by PER is:

  1. Russell Westbrook
  2. Kevin Durant
  3. Kawhi Leonard
  4. James Harden
  5. Anthony Davis
  6. Chris Paul
  7. Isaiah Thomas
  8. Giannis Antetokounmpo
  9. DeMarcus Cousins
  10. Nikola Jokic

Impressive Jokic in the 10th place.

What about Leonard? He does not make any noise, but he is always there...

I think that Harden is the main candidate, so far. Even with Westbrook doing history in front of our noses.

KD has great numbers and its team is the best in the league; but the impact in the game is distributed through all the roster (with the 4 all-star at front).

I don't know, but things must change a lot in the Thunder and Rockets record to have a change in MVP race.
